I want to put rocks and things from the ocean in my fresh water aquarium.?
I’m going on vacation to Florida and plan on bringing back shells and rocks. I have a large and nice freshwater aquarium, can I put them in it? If I can do I need to do anything to them before I do?
Before putting the shells in, remember what shells do to the water. Shells will raise your pH drastically overtime. If you have cichlids that’s great, but if you have things like, angelfish, neon tetras, etc. They do better in softer water. Rocks don’t do much to the water, so they will be fine. Just make sure you boil them for about an hour before placing them in your tank. And smell the shells to make sure no little creatures got stuck in the shells… if they smell fishy don’t place them in your tank you may foul your water.
